On Camera Acting

Commercial Acting Classes NYC: On Camera Acting

Our introductory class,The Fundamentals – Acting for the Camera, is meant as an overview of acting and the process of putting a performance on-screen.

Session 1 is about becoming comfortable and confident in front of the camera. To that end, we employ various improvisational exercises that address specific acting issues. They are short and fun! Session two is more about acting and camera technique. Scenes are broken down into ‘playable’ moments, rehearsed, and performed. Near the end of the second month, we film a short scene using various techniques we have been working on in which all students perform.

These scenes are promptly edited and on the final day of class, they are viewed. The material received from this class are meant as a teaching tool only. At this point, students should be comfortable with seeing themselves on screen and beyond the “Is that what I really look like?” stage. From this point, they can move on to a productive discussion of the film acting techniques that we have been practicing.

Tim and Lori will meet with parents after this final class for an evaluation of their son or daughter’s development during the class. One evening will be set aside for industry discussion with the students and parents are welcome to attend.

We do an overview of Legit and Commercial agents, Casting Directors, auditioning, headshots & resumes & getting a professional reel. Industry affiliations and advice will be extended to all students.
